It may sound unbelievable, but Chamba is the 2nd oldest city to have electricity in India. Bhuri Singh Power House was established in 1908 by Raja Bhuri Singh to provide electricity to the town. Bhuri Singh Power House is a hydroelectricity project on River Sal. It is located on the Chamba Bypass Road and has an installed capacity of 0.45 MW. Although it was set up so many years ago it is fully functioning even now. Chamera I with an installed capacity of 540 MW is another hydroelectricity project in the vicinity. Both these projects are now owned by the Government of Himachal Pradesh.
